Pratap Philosophy Center (Regional Post-graduate Center), formerly Indian Institute of Philosophy was established in July, 1916 by Shri Pratap Shethji. It was taken over by the University of Pune in June, 1972. It was rechristened as Pratap Center of Philosophy to commemorate the memory of its founder patron Shrimant Pratap Seth. Since then, it was a part of the Department of Philosophy, University of Pune, Pune. Property rights of the center have been legally transferred from the University of Pune to North Maharashtra University on 7th June, 1993. The built up area of the department is 6000 sq.ft. and is located in an area of 16 acres.
Goals and Objectives
Teaching :
To provide students with knowledge of both Indian and
Western traditions of philosophy.To encourage students to study closely the
original texts of Indain and Western phylosophers.To develop the ability logical
and critical thinkling of students.To motivate students to undertake original research
in phylosophy.
Research :
To carry out philosophical research by under taking
research projects and publishing research papers.To highlight the inter disciplinary
significance of philosophy for search disciplines as literature, law and social
sciences by organizing workshops/seminars/lectures.
Journals:
To continnue and strenghten the publishing of the two
journals started by the founders of the centers. To reestablished the journals as
national platforms for philosophical interactions as in the past.
Popularizing philosophy :
To popularize the study of philosophy through workshops and
certificate courses. To propogate the ancient wisdom as found in various school
of indian philosophy like yoga.

Organized International Philosophy Day (2005 and 2006) sponsored by Indian Council
of Philosophical Research (ICPR).

Organized a three-day workshop on Indian Philosophy in 2007.
Infrastructural Support
The built up area of the department is 6000 sq.ft. and is located
in an area of 16 acres. The center has lecture halls, library and hostel facility
for students and research scholars on the campus. There is a departmental library
with 5,705 books and 01 journal. Number of computers are 03 in the department. This
center is very old one and is very useful for research in philosophy because of
the rare collection of books and manuscripts.

Journals
The centre publishes to quarterly journals names, Philosophical
Quarterly (started in 1918) and Tattvajnana Mandir (Started in
1919).It has produced a number of valuable publications on Indian philosophy.
Its original wealth of literature on philosophy, religion and culture is an attraction to the scholars and so important that it is a world famous center of philosophical learning and research.
