The School of Environmental and Earth Sciences is one of the new Schools in the
University and was established on 1st July 1999. The School has a building with
7500 sq. m. built up area. In a short span of 11 years, the school has established
excellent laboratories and library facilities to get quality education in the field
of Environment and Earth Sciences. Prof. S. T. Ingle is Director of the School.
Eco-friendly sustainable approach in the process of development is a unique culture
developed at the school.

School offers four Post Graduate courses viz. Environmental Science, Applied Geology,
Applied Geography and M. Tech in Environmental Science and Technology. The School
has received research projects grants from various agencies like DST, UGC, MoEF,
UNICEF, MoWR etc. Recently School is covered under the special Assistance Programme
(UGC-SAP-DRS, Phase I) of UGC, New Delhi, for financial Assistance.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVIES OF THE SCHOOL:
- To generate expertise required for Industrial Environmental Management, Natural
Resource Management and Environmental Protection.
- To serve as a Data Bank on local/regional environment and resources.
- To act as a research centre specially in Environmental Impact Assessment, Biodiversity,
Geo-hazard and risk assessment, Environmental Health, Waste Water Treatment and
Recycling, Solid Waste Management, Risk Assessment, Pesticide residue in agricultural
commodities, Geophysical survey and ground water management, Application of GIS
tool in Environment, Geology and Geography field and Biodiversity.
- To provide technical assistance to local industries, civic bodies and Government
organizations.
- To act as a Resource Centre (RC) for implementation of Govt. strategies towards
environmental awareness, protection and management

Admission eligibility/criteria/procedure
M. Sc. Course
- M. Sc. (Environmental Sciences): Bachelor degree in Env. Sci./
Chemistry/ Botany/ Zoology/ Microbiology/ Geology/ Bio-Chemistry from any recognized
University with at least 50 % marks*.
- M.Sc. (Applied Geology): Bachelor degree in Geology / Geoinformatics/
Geography from any recognized University with at least 50 % marks*.
- M.A. / M. Sc. (Applied Geography): Bachelor degree in Geography
from any recognized University with at least 50 % marks*.
- M. Sc. (PPPR): Bachelor degree in Env. Sci. / Chemistry/ Botany/
Zoology/ Microbiology/ Geology/ Bio-Chemistry from any recognized University with
at least 50 % marks*.
* For the reserved category (SC/ST/DT/NT) candidates, the minimum marks limit is
45 %.
CRITERIA
Selection is based entirely on candidate's percentage of marks obtained at the graduation
and availability of the seats.
PROCEDURE:
A)M.Sc. / M.A. / M.Tech:
For admission to all the M. Sc. / M.A. / M. Tech. programs, an advertisement is
published on University Web site (www.nmu.ac.in) and leading news papers in the
month of May/ June of every year. The prescribed application forms are available
on University website or in the Office of the School.
B)M. Tech (Environmental Science & Technology):
Candidate for admission to the M. Tech. program should have passed B. E. or B. Tech.
degree programme, OR M.Sc. Environmental Sciences / Chemical / Biotechnology / Biomedical
/ Biological Sciences/ Earth Sciences of an appropriate branch of study or an examination
accepted by N.M.U., Jalgaon as equivalent thereto.
C)Ph. D. Program:
Admission to Ph.D. courses is given on the basis of eligibility criteria of UGC,
(as per notification UGC/ minimum standards and procedures for award of M. Phil
/ Ph.D. Degree regulations, 2009). In addition to this, He / She should possess
good academic record at graduation and post-graduation level. It can be joined directly
after completion of the M.Sc. degree. A number of research scholarships are available
to the students during his/her Ph.D. work through research project grants and/or
University fund.
RESERVATION:
For all courses running in the school, seats will be reserved as per reservation
rules and regulation of Government of Maharashtra and North Maharashtra University.

MILESTONES/ACHIEVEMENTS
- The school has emerged as excellent centre for research and extension activities
in the state of Maharashtra.
- The school has grab research grants of Rs 2.00 Crore from various funding agencies
namely UGC, DST, MoEF, Pollution Control Board.
- The school was identified as key resource center by department of sanitation and
water supply Government of Maharashtra in 2005.
- The revenue worth of Rs 5.00 lakh per annum is generated through consultancy cell
of the school. The school has actively participated in the Total Sanitary Campaign
an ambitious project developed by UNICEF for implementation through Government of
India.
- The school is actively participated in Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission,
Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.
- The school is identified under SAP-DRS Phase I of UGC for five year period (Apr.2009
to March 2014). The school has received Rs. 37.00 lakh for research projects under
the scheme. In addition every year the school is entitled to receive Rs. 20.00 lakh
per annum for infrastructural development under the scheme.
- Six M. Sc. Students of the school qualified SET and UGC-NET examination.
- Two students are recipient of Rajiv Gandhi fellowship for research sponsored by
UGC.
- One student is recipient of Japanese Govt. fellowship for research at Kumaumota
University, Japan.
- One student has cleared UPSC examination.
