The School of Environmental and Earth Sciences is one of the School in the University and was established on 1st July 1999. The School has a building with 7500 sq. m. built up area. In a short span of ten years, the school has established excellent laboratory and library facilities to get quality education in the field of Environment and Earth Sciences. Prof. S. T. Ingle is Director of the School. Eco-friendly sustainable approach in the process of development is a unique culture developed at the school.
In addition to M. Sc. (Environmental Sciences) and M. Sc. (Applied Geology) the school has started M. Tech. (Environmental Sciences and Technology) under UGCs Innovative programme from the academic year 2008 -09. The school recently identified under SAP-DRS Phase I by UGC, New Delhi.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVIES OF THE SCHOOL:
  1. To generate expertise required for Industrial Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management and Environmental Protection.
  2. To serve as a Data Bank on local/regional environment and resources.
  3. To act as a research center specially in Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Health, Waste Water Treatment and Recycling, Biodiversity, Geo-hazards and Risk Assessment.

  1. Practical oriented syllabi of all the courses conducted by the school.
  2. Equal weightage to all disciplines as per requirement in the syllabi.
  3. Special course on Industrial Visit to understand Industrial Environmental problems.
  4. Extensive field visits for exploring Geo-environmental parameters.
  5. Dissertation especially on Pollution control or Environmental Impact Assessment at IVth-Semester.
  6. Majestic building with facilities like Environmental Monitoring, Environmental Engineering, Sophisticated Instruments and Geological Museum.

ELIGIBILITY/ ADMISSION CRITERIA/ PROCEDURE

ELIGIBILITY:
  1. M.Sc. (Environmental Sciences): Bachelor degree in Chemistry/Botany/Zoology/Microbiology/Geology/Bio-Chemistry/Bio-Technology from any recognized University with at least 50 % marks*.
  2. M.Sc. (Applied Geology): Bachelor degree in Geology / Geography/Geo-Informatics from any recognized University with at least 50 % marks*.
  3. M. Tech. (Environmental Science and Tech.): B.E./B. Tech/M. Sc. (Env. Sciences/Earth Sciences/Bio- Tech./ Life Sciences/Chemical Sciences)
* For the reserved category (SC/ST/DT/NT) candidates, the minimum marks limit is 45 %.
CRITERIA
Selection is based entirely on candidate's percentage of marks obtained at the graduation and/or entrance examination, and availability of the seats.
PROCEDURE:
A) M.Sc. & M.Tech:
For admission to all the M. Sc. & M. Tech. programs, an advertisement is published on University Website (www.nmu.ac.in) and leading newspapers in the month of May/June of every year. The prescribed application forms are available on University Website or in the office of the School.
B) PH. D.:
Admissions to Ph. D. Courses are given on the basis of eligibility criteria of UGC (As per Notification UGC/Minimum standards and Procedures for award of M. Phil/Ph. D. degree Regulations, 2009). In addition to this, he/she should possess good academic record at graduation and post-graduation level. It can be joined directly after completion of the M. Sc. degree. A number of research scholarships are available to the student during his/her Ph.D. work through research project grants and/or University fund.
RESERVATION:
For all courses running in the school, seats will be reserved as per reservation rules and regulation of Govt. of Maharashtra and North Maharashtra University.

MILESTONES/ACHIEVEMENTS

  1. The school has emerged as excellent centre for research and extension activities in the state of Maharashtra.
  2. The school has grab research grants worth of Rs. 2.00 Crore from various funding agencies viz. UGC, DST, MOEF, Pollution Control Board.
  3. The school was identified as ‘Key Resource Centre’ by Dept. of Sanitation and Water Supply, Govt. of Maharashtra in 2005.
  4. The revenue worth of Rs. 5.00 lakhs per annum is generated through the consultancy cell of the school. The school has actively participated in the Total Sanitary Campaign an ambitious projects developed by UNICEF for implementation through Govt. of India.
  5. The School is actively participated in the Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission, Ministry of Rural Development, Govt. of India.
  6. The school is identified under SAP-DRS Phase I of UGC for five year period (Apr. 2009 to March 2014). The school has received Rs. 37.00 lakh for research projects under the scheme. In addition every year the school is entitled to receive Rs. 20.00 lakh per annum for infrastructural development under the scheme.
  7. National Collaborations: Ministry of Defense, Govt. of India (CESS).
  8. Five M. Sc. students of the School qualified UGC-NET examination.
  9. Two students are recipient of Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship for Research sponsored by UGC.
  10. One student is recipient of Japanese Govt. Fellowship for research at Kumaumota University, Japan.
