Department of Comparative Language and Literature

    The Department of Comparative Languages & Literature was established on 1stAugust 1999. This Department is unique in the field of culture, value education, literature and the study of languages and dialects. The department runs post- graduate courses in Marathi, English and Hindi and from the year 2010-2011 semester system has been introduced. The department has been continuously making efforts to develop language and literary skills of students as well as develop their personality leading them on the path of a bright academic career.

    Due to limited intake number, faculty can pay personal attention to every individual student. Along with central library, the student can avail the facility of departmental library. Students’ Hostel on the lush green campus is conducive to an academic ambience. Various workshops, conferences, research activities, competitions and cultural programmes in the department encourage research attitude and co-curricular practices among students. For better job opportunities for students, the dept. organizes Spoken English Courses, career counseling & campus interviews from last four years.

Goals and Objectives:

  1. To provide students knowledge of the rich legacy and heritage of world literature as well as Indian literatures and language studies.

  2. To help students imbibe the values of humanities, tolerance and citizenship.

  3. To aim at a holistic development of students to mould them into nation builders.

  4. To enable students develop language proficiency and lead to the fostering of research in languages and literature.

  5. To motivate students to make a study of indigenous cultures through folk literature, folk and oral traditions and the study of dialects.

  6. To nurture in the students a strong sense of roots to the Indian soil.

  7. To build interdisciplinary and multi lingual approaches for a wider perspective and encourage students to undertake translation.

  8. To help students find avenues of employability and encourage self-entrepreneurship.

  9. To nurture creativity and originality among students.

Admission Eligibility/ Criteria / Procedure: for M.A.

  1. Eligibility :
    Bachelor degree in English / Marathi / Hindi or any graduate from any faculty with at least 50% marks. (For reserve category (SC/ST/DT/NT) candidates, the minimum marks limit is 45%)

  2. Criteria :
    Selection is based entirely on candidates’ percentage of marks obtained at the graduation and availability of the seats.

  3. Procedure :
    For the admission to all three M.A. courses, an advertisement is published in some leading newspapers in the month of June-July every year. The prescribed application forms with a prospectus are available in the office of Dept.

     According to the rules, regulations and schedule programmed by B.C.U.D. North Maharashtra University
