About LIS Department
Department of Library and Information Science, North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon
Training in Library Science was instituted at the University in 2000 and the first
Master Degree Course in Library & Information Science was introduced in2000-2001.
Most of its alumni have stayed in the profession and many of them are occupied higher
positions of responsibility in academic Institutional and special libraries.
The Department of Library and Information Science was established under the faculty
of Mental Moral And Social Sciences in2000 and the Board of Studies in Library Science
and Journalism was constituted. Also in conformity with the national policy and
the directives from the University Grants Commission, two years integrated M.Lib.
and I.Sc.course is introduced from 2003-04. . The department also conducts Ph. D
programmes.
Courses conducted in the Department of Library and Information Science
Masters Degree in Library and Information Science (Two years Integrated Course )
From the academic year 2003-2004, the Department of Library and Information Science
is conducting the two years integrated M.Lib. and I.Sc.course. At present semester
system course is introduced and recognized by University.
As per the guidelines from the UGC Curriculum Development Committee, M.Lib.and I.Sc.integrated
course with new syllabus is being conducted in the University Department only.
Eligibility: The course
shall be open to graduates (in any subject and discipline) of any recognized and
statutory Indian university
The main objectives of the M. Lib. & I. Sc. are,
a.
To cater the educational needs of professionals.
b.
To prepare a manpower to meet the future
needs of profession.
c.
To improve the professional skills of librarians,
information scientists, documentation a lists and non-academic institution/organizations.
d.
To search for the excellence in the profession
of library, information science and technology.
Duration of the Course:
Two years, Full-time Course.
