Training in Library Science was instituted at the University in 2000 and the first Master Degree Course certificate in Library and Information Science was introduced in 2000-2001.

Most of its alumni have stayed in the profession and many of them are occupied higher rank positions in academic Institutional and special libraries.

In conformity with the national policy and the directives the University Grants Commission, a two years integrated M. Lib. and I. Sc. course has been introduced since 2003-04. The department also conducts Ph. D programmes for students.
