Scheme of Test
The Examination will consists of Paper-I and Paper-II.
- Paper-I :- Research Aptitude Test
Total Marks : 100
Total Questions : 50
Each correct answer carries 2 Mark. No negative marking system.

Syllabi for Ph. D. Entrance Test
Eligibility Criteria & Other Details
Eligibility:
For admission to the Ph.D. programme in a related subject in the faculty, applicants
fulfilling the following criteria shall be treated as eligible :
- Persons having passed Post Graduate Degree (Master Degree) Examination with at least
50 % marks or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) from any recognized
statutory University which is a member of AIU, New Delhi.
- Persons working in National Laboratories :- Institutes/Government/Private Organizations
nominated/sponsored by the respective employer. These persons should have a Post
Graduate Degree and hold the rank of Assistant Director/Scientist B and or above
and at the discretion of the Vice-Chancellor. Above mentioned rules will also be
applicable to the foreign candidates who have obtained a Masters’ Degree from the
statutory Indian Universities.
- Persons with exceptional abilities who have passed Graduate Degree Examination with
50 % of marks and with 15 years experience after graduation in related fields.
- Senior citizens of age 60 years and above with Graduate degree in exceptional cases
at the discretion of Vice-Chancellor.
- The members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and / or Institute of Cost
and Works Accountants and / or having qualification of Institute of Company Secretaries
of India shall be considered eligible for registration for Ph.D. in any subject
in the faculty of Commerce and Management provided that they possess a Bachelor’s
Degree of any statutory University.
- A Graduate in any faculty who has developed important new techniques (new for the
country) or designed and fabricated special instruments or apparatus which are deemed
by competent judge to be a valuable contribution to Engineering/Pharmacy may be
permitted by the Research and Recognition Committee of concerned faculty on the
recommendation of the appropriate Board or Boards of Studies to submit his thesis
for the Ph.D. Degree in that faculty. Such a candidate must have at least five years
standing as a Bachelor of concerned faculty.
- Applications for research in inter-disciplinary areas satisfying rule 1 (a) above
and from applicants belonging to a faculty or subject other than the faculty or
subject in which the research is proposed to be done and from international candidates
(those who have not obtained the Master’s degree from Indian Universities) shall
be considered on the basis of the proven ability and aptitude of the researcher
for such kind of research. The decisions in this regard shall be taken by the concerned
Research and Recognition Committee/s after presentation by the research student.
In such cases, the guide should be from the subject in which the candidate has completed
his/her Master Degree and the Co-guide from the allied subject. The guide and co-guide
for one particular thesis cannot be from same subject.
- Foreign Candidates (those who have not obtained Master’s degree from Indian Universities)
who have passed post-graduate degree (Master Degree) with at least 50 % marks or
equivalent CGPA.
- The candidates having passed Masters’ degree (Partly by Paper Partly by Research)
from any recognized statutory University which is a member of AIU, New Delhi.
Exemption for Entrance Test :
The Entrance Test is compulsory for the candidates who are seeking admission as
a regular (Full-time) student for Ph.D. degree in University Schools/Departments
except those who qualify the NET/SET/JRF examinations. However, the candidates who
are willing to seek admission as a part time student in University Schools/Departments
may be exempted from Entrance Test subject to fulfillment of (b) (c) (d) and (e)
as mentioned below.
The candidates who are seeking admission for Ph.D. degree in Research Institutes/Centers
(in colleges or industries) or recognized place of research of North Maharashtra
University, Jalgaon and who fulfills one of the following conditions will be exempted
from Entrance Test.
- Qualified in SET/NET/JRF examinations of the apex bodies as CSIR/UGC/ICAR/ ICMR/DBT.
- Following persons with exceptional abilities and Senior Citizens at the discretion
of Vice-Chancellor.
- Persons with exceptional abilities (who have achieved outstanding academic performance
as evidenced by publishing at least 03 research papers in international journals
having impact factor more than 03 or granted patent/s which is/are used in industry)
who have passed Graduate Degree Examination with 50 % of marks and with 15 years
experience after graduation in related fields.
- Senior citizens of age 60 years and above with Graduate degree in exceptional cases
at the discretion of Vice-Chancellor.
- Passed M.Phil, M.E./M.Tech, M.Pharm from statutory University.
- Teachers having 5 years regular (unconditional approval) teaching experience at
U.G./P.G. level.
- Foreign Students.
Distribution of Seats
Out of total available seats, 50 % seats each will be allocated to the candidates
who qualify the Entrance Test and the candidates who are exempted from the Entrance
Test as mentioned above, respectively. The reservation policy of the State Govt.
will be followed while allocating seats.
The split up of 50 % seats reserved for exempted candidates is as below :
- Qualified in SET/NET/JRF examinations of the apex bodies as CSIR/UGC/ICAR/ ICMR/DBT
– 60 % amongst above mentioned seats.
- Passed M.Phil, M.E./M.Tech, M.Pharm from statutory University – 20 % amongst above
mentioned seats.
- Teachers having 5 years regular (unconditional approval) teaching experience at
U.G./P.G. level – 20 % amongst above mentioned seats.
- Besides this, (i) persons with exceptional abilities who have passed Graduate Degree
Examination with 50 % of marks as mentioned in 2 (b) (ii) and with 15 years experience
after graduation in related fields, (ii) Senior citizens of age 60 years and above
with Graduate degree in exceptional cases and (iii) Foreign students will be allocated
seats over and above of available seats at the discretion of Vice-Chancellor.
Documents Required
Application forms are available only on website nmu.ac.in.
Candidates have to fill the form online and draw a hard copy of the same after online
submission and submit it to the DIRECTOR, BOARD OF COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITY DEVELOPMENT(BCUD),
NORTH MAHARASHTRA UNIVERSITY, Umavi Nagar, Jalgaon-425001, Before 07/10/2011.
The hard copy of the application form along with a D.D. towards fee and following
necessary documents must reach the above address on or before 10thOct.
2011 during office hours. Candidates can also submit form personally
(by hand).

NOTE : All above documents alongwith the hard copy of the application
form & D.D.* must be submitted by hand or by post in an
envelope of size 36 cm x 25 cm.
* The D.D. of any Nationalized Bank to be drawn in favour
of the "Registrar, North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon" payable at Jalgaon.
Acceptance of the form and the fees does not guarantee eligibility for appearing
the test. Eligibility criteria have to be met by the applicant. Permission to appear
for the Test is provisional till such time the candidate fulfills the eligibility
criteria within stipulated period.
How To Apply
- This online portal would render correct results only in browsers supporting JavaScript
(recommended browsers: IE 7.0+, Firefox, Google Chrome) and it is enabled in settings.
In case of incorrect rendering by inappropriate browsers shall not be the responsibility
of NMU.
- The applicant should draw a D.D. on any Nationalized Bank, in favour of "Registrar, North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon"
before proceeding for filling Online Application Form. It is mandatory to have D.D.
before proceeding for online application form submission.
- Candidate should enclose following documents along with the hard copy of application
form
- D.D. on any Nationalized Bank to be drawn in favour of the
"The Registrar, North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon".
- Write your Application Form Number, your name and address behind the D.D.
- Attested Photo Copy of the necessary Documents must also be attached these includes,
Final Year Marklist of Master's Degree or of equivalent examination (in case of
candidates who have passed Master's Degree), Caste Certificate (except for Open
category), Medical Certificate issued by Civil Suergon in case of Blind/Visually
or Physically Handicapped Candidates., Certificate(s) of claiming fulfilling the
conditions for the exemption from Entrance Test
- Candidate should fill-up the Online Application Form as per the given instructions
and take print out of the Application Form, attach the mentioned documents(attested
photo copies) along with D.D., enclosed in an envelop and send it either by
post or by hand to

- Last date for filling Online Application Form is 07th Oct. 2011
and last date for sending the hard copy of the printed form along with D.D. and
necessary documents to THE DIRECTOR, BOARD OF COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITY DEVELOPMENT(BCUD),
NORTH MAHARASHTRA UNIVERSITY, Umavi Nagar, Jalgaon-425001 is on or before 10th
Oct. 2011 during office hours. If hard copy along with D.D. and other
necessary documents is not received on or before the last date, your submitted online
application will be treated as cancelled.
Online Hall Ticket
- Hall Tickets will be provided online to all candidates on same website.
- Hall Tickets will not be sent to the candidates by Post. Candidates have to download
and get a printout of Hall Ticket
- Candidate must carry Hall Ticket and also one additional photo identity such as
a driving license, college/university identity card, pan card etc. to the Test Center
on the Day of the Entarnce Test.
