The North Maharashtra University is one of the upcoming
universities in India, the university was established on 15th August,
1990 under the Maharashtra University Act No. XXIX of 1989 as a teaching and affiliating
University. It actually started its academic and administrative activities under
the leadership of Prof. Dr. N. K. Thakare, the first Vice Chancellor of the
university, from academic year 1991-92. The jurisdiction of North Maharashtra University
is spread over three districts of North Maharashtra i.e. Jalgaon, Dhule and Nandurbar.
The university was shifted to its own campus in 1995.The university
is situated on the banks of river "Girna" and the campus of the university is spread
over a hilly terrain of 650 acres of land. Each building of the campus is well connected
through tar roads constructed by the University itself. The University is also well
connected to Jalgaon City by Asian Highway No. 46. The transport modes like City
Bus Service, Auto Rickshaws are available for employees, students, visitors.
The campus beautification is maintained through lawns and planting
various trees on the campus. More than two lac trees have been planted to conserve
the natural beauty and environment of the campus, for which the university was selected
for the �Vanashree Award � 2000� by Government of Maharashtra and �Indira Priyadarshini
Vriksha Mitra (IPVM) Award-2002� by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Govt.
of India, New Delhi.
The Maharashtra State Electricity Board has installed a separate
sub-station to cater to the needs of electricity on the campus. As an alternative
source of electricity supply, three 125 KVs Diesel Generators are installed on the
campus. The university is approximately 10Kms away from the Jalgaon city. The pollution
free hilly terrain provides natural ambience which creates a perfect environment
for study. All Departments are equipped with all
modern facilities, required by students/visitors.
The university is imparting education to students, through various
courses at under graduate, post graduate, doctoral and post doctoral level, under

Right now, there are 6 schools
and 11 academic departments on
the campus. Soon we will be strarting new academic departments. There are more than
200 colleges and 37 institutes and 17 recognized R
& D centres affiliated to the university and this number is growing every
year. The syllabi of different courses are designed to give profound and latest
knowledge about the subjects to the students. The element of computer education
is also being added to B.A., B.Sc. & B.Com. courses. The syllabi of the courses
are revised from time to time as per the requirement.
The University has developed a model Examination System and is one of the few Universities
in the State for conducting examinations regularly and declaring the results well
in time as per the Maharashtra Universities Act, 1994. The action plan of the University
in this regard is serving as a prototype to other Universities in the State.
To improve the efficiency of work most of the functioning of
Administrative Departments/sections is computerized. The modern management
techniques are used for easy and user friendly administration.
Prof. Dr. S. F. Patil took over as the second Vice Chancellor of this University
on 14th Aug. 1996. During his tenure two new academic departments viz.
Department of Comparative Languages & Literature and Department of Information Technology
were started on the campus.

Prof. Dr. R. S. Mali took over as the third Vice Chancellor
of the University on 14th August, 2001. Under his able and visionary
leadership University progressed at a faster pace towards excellence. He encouraged
students and teachers to undertake Water Harvesting programs on the campus, and
as a outcome of this, small bands were constructed by the students.

Inspite of the fact that we have small number of faculty members in our Academic
Schools/Departments, our faculty on the campus has till date successfully completed
many Research Projects funded by various funding
agencies. We have developed and transferred four technologies through University-Industry
linkage and made some more ready for transfer.
In a very short period of time the university has gained name and fame on National
and International levels. This university has also acquired the prestigious 2(f)
& 12(b) recognition from the UGC. The university has been re-accredited with
'B' (CGPA 2.88) grade duly honoured by the National Assessment and
Accreditation Council (NAAC), Banglore. When NAAC committe assessed the functioning
of the teaching and non teaching departments of the University, awarded the
4 star status in 2001 and reaccredited in December 2008 as 'B' (CGPA
2.88) grade.

Keeping in mind the need for self-reliance in future, university undertook the Teak plantation
programme. 95,000 plantlets were planted which are growing up fast. This
project was awarded with "VANASHREE" award in the year 2002. Honourable Vice-Chancellor
received this award from the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Vilasrao Deshmukh.

Prin. Dr. K. B. Patil took over as the fourth regular
Vice Chancellor of the university on 22nd Aug. 2006. Dr. K. B. Patil
is a well known personality in the academia as well as amongst the mathematicians.

The North Maharashtra University was established on 15th August, 1990 under the

for the purpose of socio - economic development of the region. The jurisdiction
of the University is spread over three districts of North Maharashtra: Jalgaon,
Dhule and Nandurbar. It actually started its academic and administrative activities
from academic year 1991 - 92, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. N. K. Thakare,
the founder Vice-Chancellor of the university.

The University has adopted "School" concept to encourage interdesciplinary
teaching / research activities under one roof so that limited human resources, equipment
and infrastructure are optimally utilized by creating the culture of team work.
This year, 5 Schools/Departments were established for conducting teaching, research
and extension activities on the campus.

1992 was a special year for the University because in this year University got the
2(f) recognition from UGC.
|
|
Historical event : Foundation stone laying ceremony of the Administrative building
was done in 1993, at the auspicious hands of then Chief Minister of Maharashtra
Shri. Sharad Pawar.

In this year, university obtained the prestegious 12(B) recognition of the University
Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi.
|
|
Within a span of 2 years, of its campus foundation stone laying ceremony, the University

In this year, University established the Pujya Sane Guruji Sanskar Kendra, for observance
of philosophy of reverend Shri Sane Guruji, for maintaining an equilibrium between
cultural values and technological progress.

Computerization of Administration was the major highlight of this year.
|
|
This year, three new Schools/Departments including Department of Information Technology,
Department of Comparative Languages & Literature and School of Environmental
& Earth Sciences were established.

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council's Peer Review team visited the
university.
|
|
- NAAC awarded the prestigious 4 Star Status to the University.
- Prof. Dr. R. S. Mali
took over as the third Vice Chancellor of the university.

Under the able guidance of Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. R. S. Mali,
University Expert System Project was initiated, as a
first step, towards, becoming a paperless office.

|
The University obtained the 512 Kbps VSAT connectivity under UGC Infonet Program
of the UGC. Also the in-house training program on "Computer Operations" for non
teaching staff of the University was started in this year.

|
- 512 Kbps SCPC VSAT Internet Access facility under UGC Infonet project, for
browsing E-Journals was started from this year.
- Following events were organized
during this year :
- West Zone and All India Level Inter University Level Kabaddi tournament.
- West Zone Inter University Youth Festival.
- Following buildings were inaugrated during this year :
- Central Library building, at the auspicious hands of His Excellency the Vice
President Of India Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.
- School Of Environmental & Earth Sciences by Honourable Shri Suresh Dada Jain
Minister Of Technical & Higher Education, Government of Maharashtra.
- Following seminars were organized during this year :
- One day, C. V. Raman Memorial Seminar(RMS) was organized on the occasion of National
Science Day.
- Developments in Biotech Emerging Trends and Challenges
on 25 & 26 November 2004.
- Antar Bharati Seminar by Sane Guruji Sanskar Kendra on 24 &
25 December 2004.

- Computer Centre Up-gradation proposal was cleared by the UGC, New Delhi & the
funds of the tune of Rs. 25 Lakhs were sanctioned for the up-gradation.
- Prin. Dr. K. B. Patil took over as the fourth
Vice-Chancellor of the university.
- University successfully organized the inter-university

"Avishkar-2006" was organized on 15-16 December 2006.

There are more than 200 affiliated colleges and 37
institutes and 17 recognized R & D centres. Some of the affiliated colleges have
undergone the NAAC evaluation and others are in the process of getting NAAC accreditation.
Contributions to the Society
The academic departments on the campus regularly organize programs
to develop and promote Scientific/Environmental awareness for the local community.
So far they have arranged programs like Vidnyan Jattha, Vidnyan Gatha, Krishi Vidnyan
Yatra, IT Dindi, SoftEx, Poster Presentation, Open House, etc. The Department of
Adult and Continuing Education and Extension Services focusses on literacy issues.
Different Blood Donation Camps also have been organized by the University.
To cultivate the virtues of social service amongst the youngsters,
the Student's Welfare and N.S.S. Section of our University has taken a good initiative
in addressing different social problems by organizing many awareness programs like
Schedule Tribes Camp, Youth Festival, Elocution Competition, Water Harvesting Movement,
AIDS Awareness Rally, N.S.S. camps at rural places of our University jurisdiction.
Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Science and Technology for encouraging
socially relevant scientific activities.
The Univercity is planning to establish "Science Park".
